Engine Will Not Start
- Old fuel: Drain stale gasoline and refill with fresh fuel before winter operation.
- Choke not set: Use full choke for cold starts, then move gradually to run as the engine warms.
- Spark plug issue: Inspect, clean, gap, or replace the spark plug if the engine cranks but does not start.
- Fuel system blocked: Check fuel shutoff valve, fuel line, primer bulb, and carburetor for blockage or varnish buildup.
Auger or Impeller Not Turning
- Broken auger belt: Remove the belt cover and inspect the auger belt for cracking, glazing, stretching, or breakage.
- Shear pins damaged: Replace broken shear pins with correct Simplicity replacement hardware only.
- Loose engagement cable: Adjust the auger control cable if the handle engages but the auger does not rotate.
Poor Snow Throwing Performance
- Clogged discharge chute: Shut off the engine, remove the key, wait for all moving parts to stop, then clear with a clean-out tool.
- Heavy wet snow: Reduce forward speed and take narrower passes to prevent clogging.
- Worn scraper bar: Replace the scraper bar, skid shoes, or shave plate if snow is left behind.
- Loose impeller belt: Inspect belt tension and replace worn belts if discharge distance is weak.
Drive System Problems
- No forward or reverse drive: Inspect the traction cable, drive belt, friction disc, axle pins, and wheel engagement system.
- Slipping under load: Replace worn friction wheel rubber or adjust the drive control linkage.
- Track drive not pulling: Check track tension, drive sprockets, and cable adjustment on track-equipped models.
Chute and Control Issues
- Chute will not rotate: Inspect chute crank, gear assembly, cables, frozen linkage, and packed snow around the chute base.
- Deflector stuck: Remove ice buildup and lubricate chute deflector pivot points.
- Electric start failure: Confirm outlet power, inspect extension cord, and check starter button connection.
Safety note: Always stop the engine, remove the ignition key, disconnect the spark plug wire, and wait for all moving parts to stop before service. Never place hands inside the chute or auger housing.
